Now on Wikia!

We have now created a page on Wikia.

Make October a Smoke-Free month for 28 days!

As part of the Stoptober 28 day Smoke-Free month, we have made this little banner to hopefully influence others to join in and support it. We respect all smokers, but we all have family and friends who also like the odd smoke a fair bit, and would like to try and help them to quit once and for all.

Smoking causes harm to you're health and can cause serious health problems in later years to come, possibly also leading to lung cancer, which is something we'd like to help avoid, and stop the spread of passive smoking to children and babies.

Do the right thing, put it out, right out!

Do it for our friend, Stephen.

Thomas Themed Birthday Party - How to plan. =)

Activities for a Thomas the Tank Engine Birthday Party If you are on this site, you clearly are a big fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, and if you have kids, you probably want them to be too. Here are a few ways you can throw a fun and exciting Thomas the Tank Engine themed sleep over party for their birthday.

1. Boarding Tickets

Before the party you can send invitations themed like a boarding ticket. They can have the train’s departure time (the start of the party) the arrival time (the end) and any other necessary information. For example, because it is a sleep over party you may want guests to bring a pair of Thomas the Tank Engine pajamas Each ticket can also have a unique number on it, which can be used to assign teams when they arrive. For example, numbers 1-3 can be team Thomas, 4-6 team Gordon, etc. Periodically through out the party, the Fat Controller (an adult or older sibling) can blow a train whistle to start a raffle. Then they choose one of the ticket numbers randomly from a box. Whoever has the matching ticket can get a prize – for example a gift bag filled with train themed treats.

 2. Making Trains

Train modeling is obviously awesome, but model trains for a whole party can rack up quite a bill. As an alternative, before the party search for Thomas and Friends printables online and find ones that show side profiles of the trains. Then print these and cut them out to distribute to each team. Make sure that each team gets the character that they are named after and enough cars for each teammate. Once each team is set with the cut outs, they can compete in making the best train. They can color in the cut outs using magic markers, crayons, or any other art supplies you prefer. Then, they can join their cars together using paper clips as couplers. The Fat Controller who has been blowing the whistle can judge each team’s creations to decide which is the best. The winning team will get to decide who they compete against first in the Chug o’ War Challenge.

3. Chug o’ War Challenge

This spin on the classic tug o’ war pits two locomotives against each other to see which steam engine can kick out the most horse power. Create a line of train tracks about 3 feet wide - these can be made out of black tape on concrete, or lines sprayed on grass with a train turntable in the middle (this can be as simple as a garbage can lid or round piece of cardboard, or as complicated as you would like). The two competing teams stand within the train tracks on either side of the turntable and must pull on a rope against each other. The first team to get derailed (step off the tracks) or to touch the turntable loses. Depending on how many teams you have, you can make the chug o’ war a tournament, best out of three, or find a different way to make the activity last as long as you would like. After all of the rounds, the team that wins can get to choose who will be the first engine in Train Tag.

 4. Train Tag

To play Train Tag, first mark out the boundaries of a train yard (playing field) in a park or yard. The size of the yard will depend on how many people are playing, but if you make it too big, the game may take a very long time to end. For 10 people an area of about 30 feet by 30 feet should be good. For 15 people 40 x 40 may be better. The Engine (or first player) is “it”. Whenever they tag someone, that person joins the “train” and has to hold their hand. Then they must work together to tag another person, who then also joins their train. This keeps going until everyone is part of the train. The winner is the caboose, or the last person to get tagged. This game can go for as many rounds as it takes for everyone to get bored or tired. Each time the caboose is captured, that person’s team wins a point for being the last player.

5. Settling Down

After a day of crafting, tugging, chugging, and running, most of the partygoers should have begun to run out of steam. You can cap off the party with a big Thomas themed birthday cake, giving the first slices to the birthday boy or girl, and then the next ones to the team that won the most games. After the cake, everyone can settle down by playing with model trains and watching Thomas and Friends. Before long, they should be just about ready to get some rest. Kids have loved Thomas the Tank Engine for over 50 years now, so a Thomas themed party can be a great opportunity for them to learn fun activities that they can pass on for generations. With activities ranging from raffles to chug o’ wars, everyone should have a blast at this kind of birthday party.

Sincere Apologies to all

My deepest apologies to all for not updating the blog sooner.

The last month has been a real life turner, i won't go into the details too deep, but it has changed some of how i feel towards relationships in the near future. However, in spite of everything, i still hold a good friendship with my ex, and we still talk now and again.

I have so much work to do to the blog now that it will probably take at least a couple weeks towards August to get them all sorted and added.

150th Anniversary of Frank Hornby!

Frank Hornby 150th Anniversary - Today the world celebrates the man who invented a miniature world of nuts and bolts in a box, from Clockwork Model Trains, to Dinky Toys and Meccano.

Franks work dates right back to 1901, before model railways were even thought of, if it wasn't for him, we would never have known the joys of building replica model railways, like we do today!

Complete model of Paxton, now available to view in gallery!

We are pleased to announce that the completed model of Paxton from the Sodor OO Works, is now available to view in the Gallery.  Click the link above to head over to the Sodor OO Works gallery to see this recently finished model.

The model was made using a Bachmann Thomas 'Diesel' with a trackmaster Paxton face donated for the model, for the paintwork, Humbrol 88 is a close enough match for the body, Humbrol 154 Yellow was used for the hand-painted lining.

And for the finishing touch of weathering, Tamiya Weathering Master was used to give him a grubby look. Overall, the model is much better than the original, smoother running and highly detailed.

Paxton MK II - Lining Finished!

The lining around the whole of Paxton's body has been completed, and only now requires a slit touch up here and there to neaten it, other then that, it is going nicely.

Paxton MK II - Progressing Well!

The recent project has been coming along better than i had hoped, the paintwork has turned out nicely, which means i can now move onto the next part of the body, which will be the lining that runs around his whole bodyshell.

Don't worry to much about the little patches of primer still showing, these will be dealt with. :)

Paxton MK II - Work in Progress!

A good morning to all this 1st of May.

We've been very busy updating pages and links the last few weeks, but now have some new work in progress images of Paxton the Diesel, courtesy of the Sodor OO Works.

The model is being made using Bachmann's Devious Diesel as opposed to the UK Bachmann's 'Gronk' shunter, the Thomas 'Diesel' is more accurate for Paxton, and seems to be a far smoother runner, with better detail to the body and chassis.

We will post more photos of the work in progress model as they come, but this is what you can expect once he is fully detailed and weathered down! :)

Stephen Sheredy Productions joins Community Media!

We are delighted to add Stephen's work to the community members media page, the quality of his work is really eye-catching, and very realistic. He has done some amazing home videos of 'Something in the Air' and 'Cranky Bugs', with 'Horrid Lorry' to follow very soon!

It's quite stunning how much work Stephen has put into his models, something i couldn't do on such a large scale, but i adore his modelling because of the time he has taken with making them and giving them their classic faces, old and new. :)

We hope that you will enjoy seeing his work showcased here, as he deserves much credit for what he has done and produced.

Homemade 'Thomas and Friends' Video by Stephen Sheredy

It's amazing what you can do with time and patience, and once again, our friend Stephen has captured the Skarloey Railway's image with his superb modelling. They are dead accurate to the television series models, and are truly some of his best work ever to be showcased.

Also shown in the video, Stephen has captured and feel and setting of the episodes 'COWS' and 'SOMETHING IN THE AIR'  from the classic stories and scaled them down in OO gauge, again, it is quite something, and it is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of Thomas.

Be sure to check out his channel and subscribe to it!

Blog Updates - 13th April 2013

Spent a fair bit of the day updating the pages with new media and affiliates.

First up, some videos courtesy of ThomasFan247, a couple of Trainspotting at vids plus Watching Trains and Thomas the Really Useful Engine. These have been added under the 'Barry the Rescue Engine' saga videos, so there is no confusion about who they belong to!

Secondly, the homepage has been updated with some banners linking to our communities official friends, plus updates and news. So far, they updates are slowly taking effect, currently working on updating the background and getting the rest of the pages updated with new photos courtesy of Skarloeyfan and Stephen Sheredy.

Whiff and Boco - Ready for testing!

Both recent models, Whiff and Boco are now ready for testing on the layout, both models have taken great time to make, and are now here and ready to be useful. Whiff was the most annoying model to do, but finally in working order are months of fiddling.

Boco was completed a week ago, after months of work, and will hopefully be shown on a video test later today.

New Affiliates!

We are happy to welcome and add Vision Scale Modeler to our list of friends and recomended links. Vision Scale Modeler has been kind enough to share his model interest with the community and has also told us about his models of the Skarloey Railway locomotives.

One of the finest examples of his work, is a classic scene featuring Stuart, Duke and Falcon on the Mid-Sodor Railway from the episode 'Granpuff', where Duke goes on about his grace.

We give our thanks to Stephen Sheredy, the owner of Vision Scale Modeler, for sharing his Skarloey Railway modelling with us, and wish him all the best with his model of Rheneas and any other skarloey characters he undertakes. :)

Rosie and Molly, next to come from the Sodor OO Workshop!

Rosie and Molly, are the next new models in line for work from the Sodor OO Workshop.

There is a large gap in the Thomas & Friends market for female characters, and since Molly and Rosie are not currently available from Bachmann, Hornby e.t.c.  It is only fitting that they are undertaken as a personal project, the models chosen for these two have been decided already, and both will be built using well known kitbashing methods and some scratchbuilding.

Molly i am hoping to render using a B12 bodyshell, with some heavy modifications made to it, to ensure the belpaire firbox and running plate are identical to the above image of Molly from Season Nine.

Thomas has a new Storyteller - Mark Moraghan!

For as long as i can remember since 1992 when Series Three of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends came to Telelvision with a new voice, Michael Angelis, after previous Storyteller, Ringo Starr, stepped down to continue work with his music career. Angelis brought a new meaning to Thomas, with bold and exciting voices for Thomas and his many friends.

Over the years since telling the stories, Michael Angelis has been an idol to many fans, purely for the way he told the stories and gave the characters their own personalities, for me, James was a personal favorite  the way he spoke and the accent Michael Angelis gave him.
Though now, we are in the 21st Century, it's a time of great changes, and many are sad to hear that Angelis has stepped down from the series after many long years, as the longest standing storyteller in the history of Thomas and Friends.

But now, a fresh new talent has stepped up, and from the preview clips found on YouTube from the new Railway Mischief DVD, the new storyteller looks to be set for life, and has received much positive feedback from fans on Twitter and Facebook in the last couple hours. :)

So it is with great pleasure, that we welcome Mark Moraghan, as the new Storyteller for the future Thomas and Friends Series! And wish him all the best with his new job on the show, with best wishes from all at The World of Thomas Modelling Community.

Workshop Progress - Boco's Undercoat!

Last time, we started Boco's journey by removing the unwanted detailing that wasn't needed where the face would be placed once finished. Using a hobby file, the front end of the Co-Bo model was carefully filed down and smoothed out, before lightly being dusted off ready for receiving it's primer undercoat.

Before using a primer base coat, always ensure the model is free from dust, oil e.t.c. and when using a spray primer (for the best results) spray at least 25 to 30 cm away from the model so that the paint doesn't run, as this will leave a horrid blotchy look and thick paint marks. I used Tamiya's Super Primer undercoat spray paint to do this, and the result was very effective. Once the model has been completely primed, you must leave to to dry for at least 24 hours before working further with your chosen top coat.

So far, so good. Now the model is ready to be given the top coat, i will be using 'Park Green' as it's the closest to Boco's color scheme, this stage will require some areas being masked off with masking tape or maskol.

We don't want to get any paint on the areas that will be dealt with later on, as it will show up on the model and make it look tatty in places, so it's best to always mask off areas that you will cover later on in the painting stage.
