Homemade 'Thomas and Friends' Video by Stephen Sheredy

It's amazing what you can do with time and patience, and once again, our friend Stephen has captured the Skarloey Railway's image with his superb modelling. They are dead accurate to the television series models, and are truly some of his best work ever to be showcased.

Also shown in the video, Stephen has captured and feel and setting of the episodes 'COWS' and 'SOMETHING IN THE AIR'  from the classic stories and scaled them down in OO gauge, again, it is quite something, and it is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of Thomas.

Blog Updates - 13th April 2013

Spent a fair bit of the day updating the pages with new media and affiliates.

First up, some videos courtesy of ThomasFan247, a couple of Trainspotting at vids plus Watching Trains and Thomas the Really Useful Engine. These have been added under the 'Barry the Rescue Engine' saga videos, so there is no confusion about who they belong to!

Secondly, the homepage has been updated with some banners linking to our communities official friends, plus updates and news. So far, they updates are slowly taking effect, currently working on updating the background and getting the rest of the pages updated with new photos courtesy of Skarloeyfan and Stephen Sheredy.

Whiff and Boco - Ready for testing!

Both recent models, Whiff and Boco are now ready for testing on the layout, both models have taken great time to make, and are now here and ready to be useful. Whiff was the most annoying model to do, but finally in working order are months of fiddling.

Boco was completed a week ago, after months of work, and will hopefully be shown on a video test later today.

New Affiliates!

We are happy to welcome and add Vision Scale Modeler to our list of friends and recomended links. Vision Scale Modeler has been kind enough to share his model interest with the community and has also told us about his models of the Skarloey Railway locomotives.

One of the finest examples of his work, is a classic scene featuring Stuart, Duke and Falcon on the Mid-Sodor Railway from the episode 'Granpuff', where Duke goes on about his grace.


We give our thanks to Stephen Sheredy, the owner of Vision Scale Modeler, for sharing his Skarloey Railway modelling with us, and wish him all the best with his model of Rheneas and any other skarloey characters he undertakes. :)

Rosie and Molly, next to come from the Sodor OO Workshop!

Rosie and Molly, are the next new models in line for work from the Sodor OO Workshop.

There is a large gap in the Thomas & Friends market for female characters, and since Molly and Rosie are not currently available from Bachmann, Hornby e.t.c.  It is only fitting that they are undertaken as a personal project, the models chosen for these two have been decided already, and both will be built using well known kitbashing methods and some scratchbuilding.

Molly i am hoping to render using a B12 bodyshell, with some heavy modifications made to it, to ensure the belpaire firbox and running plate are identical to the above image of Molly from Season Nine.

Thomas has a new Storyteller - Mark Moraghan!

For as long as i can remember since 1992 when Series Three of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends came to Telelvision with a new voice, Michael Angelis, after previous Storyteller, Ringo Starr, stepped down to continue work with his music career. Angelis brought a new meaning to Thomas, with bold and exciting voices for Thomas and his many friends.

Over the years since telling the stories, Michael Angelis has been an idol to many fans, purely for the way he told the stories and gave the characters their own personalities, for me, James was a personal favorite  the way he spoke and the accent Michael Angelis gave him.
Though now, we are in the 21st Century, it's a time of great changes, and many are sad to hear that Angelis has stepped down from the series after many long years, as the longest standing storyteller in the history of Thomas and Friends.

But now, a fresh new talent has stepped up, and from the preview clips found on YouTube from the new Railway Mischief DVD, the new storyteller looks to be set for life, and has received much positive feedback from fans on Twitter and Facebook in the last couple hours. :)

So it is with great pleasure, that we welcome Mark Moraghan, as the new Storyteller for the future Thomas and Friends Series! And wish him all the best with his new job on the show, with best wishes from all at The World of Thomas Modelling Community.

Boco the Diseasel MK II - Complete!

Greetings to all

It's been a while since i updated you on Boco's progress, but i am happy to say that he is now finished and ready to be a really useful engine. Here are the photos of the completed model.

Video will soon be posted to YouTube showing how he copes with the workloads.

Great Waterton in OO - Update!

Well it is a new year and some work has been done to the layout since you all last saw it. The Road is almost finished! Just a little more to do them paint it all. But still a way to go for more Road vehicles, So far only have Bertie, 2 Bulgy's, Elizabeth, Butch and Lorry 1. 

Lorries 2 and 3 will be build when I get them. All copyright belongs to it rightful owners.

Workshop Progress - Boco's Undercoat!

Last time, we started Boco's journey by removing the unwanted detailing that wasn't needed where the face would be placed once finished. Using a hobby file, the front end of the Co-Bo model was carefully filed down and smoothed out, before lightly being dusted off ready for receiving it's primer undercoat.

Before using a primer base coat, always ensure the model is free from dust, oil e.t.c. and when using a spray primer (for the best results) spray at least 25 to 30 cm away from the model so that the paint doesn't run, as this will leave a horrid blotchy look and thick paint marks. I used Tamiya's Super Primer undercoat spray paint to do this, and the result was very effective. Once the model has been completely primed, you must leave to to dry for at least 24 hours before working further with your chosen top coat.

So far, so good. Now the model is ready to be given the top coat, i will be using 'Park Green' as it's the closest to Boco's color scheme, this stage will require some areas being masked off with masking tape or maskol.

We don't want to get any paint on the areas that will be dealt with later on, as it will show up on the model and make it look tatty in places, so it's best to always mask off areas that you will cover later on in the painting stage.
